When it comes to decorating your home, choosing the right lighting and decorative table lamps can be the most important decisions you make. With the right lighting, you can do amazing things with your indoor spaces. You can transform a dark and dreary room into a colorful, warm and inviting haven. Or make a large, sterile space seem intimate and cozy all with the flick of a switch.

There are three types of table lamps that you can use to accessorize your home:  table lamps, desk lamps and buffet lamps. Each have an individual purpose and can add that special decorating element to your space. You can find Tiffany table lamps, Mission lamps, and streamlined contemporary table lamps. Standard table lamps fall into a category of lighting called task lighting. Task lighting delivers essential illumination for specific tasks like reading or cooking. This type of lighting is localized, shadow free, and easy on the eyes.

Placement is vital when decorating with table lamps and desk lamps. There should be enough table lamps in your home to accommodate the many tasks that you do each day. If more than one person does tasks simultaneously in the same area, such as if you and your partner read in bed each night, two table lamps should be used. To correctly place a table lamp, the bottom of the lamp should be placed at eye level when you are seated. For delicate tasks, such as hobby work, the light source should be 10 to 12 inches below the user’s eye level.

While buffet lamps are normally used for lighting the buffet sideboard during dining parties, this long, slender and stylish lamp can be used in many other places around the home including some places that you may not have thought possible. Another characteristic of the buffet lamp, which makes it ideal for other areas of the home also, is its small base. The small footprint of the buffet lamp makes it a great lamp to use in places without the space to dedicate to a traditional table lamp such as small side tables.

As you can see, there are many ways to accessorize your home using lamps. While it may take a little planning to select the lamps that are perfect for your home, you agree that it was time well spent when you see what effects the proper lighting has on your décor.
